On Thursday 21st May, the Year 5/6 netball team took part in a competitive tournament at St Mary’s School. There were more than 15 teams in attendance and the competition was of a high standard. The team played five closely contested matches, winning two and narrowly losing three. Many of the players showed excellent team work and were sporting throughout.
On Friday 15th May, the Year 5/6 Football team travelled to Pearson Primary to play a friendly football match. This was the teams first game of the new year and their first match at 9 a-side. The match started competitively with both teams passing the ball well. Ali and James were proving solid at the back making lots of timely tackles and interceptions. After a cagey opening, Pearson took the lead and extended it just before half time. The Sidmouth team didn’t let their heads drop and pulled a goal back towards the end, with Tafarrel tapping in from close range. The final score ended 4-1 to Pearson, but the team were pleased with their efforts.
On Tuesday 6th May we had our annual Tigers Trust assembly. The children took part in the sponsored penalty shootout at school and were awarded certificates and medals for their efforts. The children who raised the most money won a trip to the KC Stadium to have a back stage tour. Three children who raised the most money in the school also won tickets to this weekends must-win fixture against Burnley. Well done and thank you to all the children who took part. Art Club has been cancelled until further notice. This is due to staff illness. Children will be informed when the club starts again.
On Friday 24th April, 12 children from Year 5 and 6 travelled to Ennerdale Leisure Centre to take part in the Hull Schools Biathlon. The children were asked to complete a 25 metre swim before running a 400m race. All the children tried their hardest and performed to the best of their ability. After an anxious wait, the results were revealed and Sidmouth had great success. Bailey won the Year 6 Boys race, Luke won the Year 5 Boys race and Isabel came third in the Year 5 Girls race. There was also success in the team events where both the Year 5 girls and Year 6 boys won their events. We wish the children the best of luck in going to represent Hull at the next level event.
On Friday 13th March it’s safe to say that our children (and staff) were quite a sight to see as we all turned up for the day in the most weird and whacky disguises imaginable. Why not see who you can spot in our photos? So many activities helped to raise a smile, such as our design a nose competition and Year 4’s delicious buns, and lots of people certainly had a good giggle over our Sidmouth Joke Book!
Thanks to the efforts of our pupils, staff and parents, we managed to raise £516. Fantastic work everyone, well done.
On the week commencing 16th March, the whole school took part in a city wide mathematics competition through www.sumdog.com. Over 100 classes across the city competed including primary and secondary schools. The children from Sidmouth Primary did extremely well and demonstrated some superb mathematics ability! The children answered a range of questions from across the mathematics curriculum and we are extremely proud of them!
Our Year 5 class recorded the highest points total throughout the whole city, beating every singleclass that took part. In addition, Rojgar had the 3rd highest points total from any child in the city.
From year 6 that highest point’s scorer was Rebecca, from Year 4 it was Rudi and from Year 3 it was Hanin. Well done Sidmouth Primary!
This term saw the Hull Swimming Finals taking place at Winifred Holtby Secondary school. Sidmouth took a Year 5 and 6 team consisting of: Poppy, Paige, Patrick, Lauren, Bailey, Millie, Luke and Morgan. The competition was tough, with 12 other schools in attendance and many club swimmers on show. Our team worked their hardest and managed to win some of the individual events, whilst also placing well in the relays. After the events were finished and the scores tallied, our team managed to finish 2nd. This means that they have qualified to swim for Hull and will be representing their city in the Regional Finals in July.
This term saw our children take part in the Humberside Cross Country finals. Having qualified two teams, girls Year 5 and boys Year 4, back in October, the children were very excited to finally get their chance to run for Hull. All the children trained very hard to get ready for the event and represented their city magnificently. A big congratulations goes to Shafee, who finished 11th in the boys’ race, and Isabel, who finished 23rd in the girls’ race. Well done to Lewis, Poppy, Millie and Yasmeena who also ran very well. There have already been requests to get the Running Club started again so the children can get ready for next year’s competition.
At Sidmouth Primary School we have a wide range of sporting activities.
Can you guess what type of sport this is?
