Quadkids Athletics

SChool games logo

During the summer term, the Year 5 and 6 children got the chance to take part in the Quadkids Athletics Tournament at Costello Athletic Stadium. The tournament gives children a chance to compete in 4 track and field events. The scores for these events are then recorded and given a points score; the higher the score the better!

Sidmouth took 3 teams to the event and they performed very well. Olivia showed excellent technique in the Javelin throw, comfortably reaching over 23 meters. The sprint runs also proved a real strength with Ramzi and Bailey recording very quick times over the 75m. In the standing long jump, Ellie and Farrell jumped the furthest of the team.

The final results are still being checked and counted and the children are eagerly awaiting them!

Orienteering

SChool games logoAt the Year 5 and 6 Orienteering competition, Sidmouth performed very well. The tournament took place at Costello Athletics Stadium, and required teams of two to successfully navigate using a map. The children had to race to different points on the map and scan their code with an electronic dibber. The quickest pairs and teams to return were the winners. The pairs did very well in both competitions and we are now waiting for the official results.

Netball Tournament at St Mary’s

SChool games logo

On Thursday 21st May, the Year 5/6 netball team took part in a competitive tournament at St Mary’s School. There were more than 15 teams in attendance and the competition was of a high standard. The team played five closely contested matches, winning two and narrowly losing three. Many of the players showed excellent team work and were sporting throughout.

Year 6 Football v Pearson

On Friday 15th May, the Year 5/6 Football team travelled to Pearson Primary to play a friendly football match. This was the teams first game of the new year and their first match at 9 a-side. The match started competitively with both teams passing the ball well. Ali and James were proving solid at the back making lots of timely tackles and interceptions. After a cagey opening, Pearson took the lead and extended it just before half time. The Sidmouth team didn’t let their heads drop and pulled a goal back towards the end, with Tafarrel tapping in from close range. The final score ended 4-1 to Pearson, but the team were pleased with their efforts.
